Brief introduction of Lecturer：

MARK R. SHULMAN is the Assistant Dean for Graduate Programs & International Affairs and an Adjunct Professor at Pace Law School in White Plains, New York. In that capacity, he oversees Pace’s top-ranked Environmental Law LL.M. (master’s degree) program and its general LL.M. in Comparative Legal Studies as well as its S.J.D. (doctoral) and Visiting Scholars programs.

Immediately prior to joining Pace, Dean Shulman directed the Worldwide Security Program at the EastWest Institute in New York and Brussels. Until 2003, he practiced corporate law at Debevoise & Plimpton, a global firm based in New York. An active member of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, he chairs the Council on International Affairs and serves on the Task Force on National Security and the Rule of Law. From 2006 to 2009, he chaired the City Bar’s Committee on International Human Rights. Over the years, he has taught courses on international law at Columbia Law School and Sarah Lawrence College and history/international affairs at Yale University, the U.S. Air War College, and Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs. He also serves as a consultant on human rights and international affairs projects for the Rockefeller Foundation and is a member of the board of Next Generation Nepal.

Dean Shulman received a B.A. from Yale University, a Master’s degree from Oxford University, and a Ph.D. in history from the University of California at Berkeley. He earned his J.D. from Columbia Law School where he served as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Transnational Law and received the Berger Prize for excellence in International and Comparative Law.
